A New Start Begins This Thursday (Nov. 16, 2006)

Well, after all my feeble attempts at loosing weight I have finally thrown in the towel and will be having lap-band surgery Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006 @ 9:30am. I am nervous, excited, scared, relieved, desperate, positive, and many other emotions. Why have I decided to go this route? Well, the answer is fairly simple in many terms, and complicated in others.

For the past 5 yrs, I have been struggling to get down to my weight pre-children, and lately seem to be continuing to gain which is very disappointing. I was diagnosed with PCOS this summer and that alone can have a drastic effect on weight gain and loss. For the past 18 mths I have been researching and looking into the lap-band and how it works, the pros and cons. I went back and forth attempting to decide if this was the right thing to do. I really, REALLY wanted to be able to do it the 'natural' way. With the lap-band though it is a tool that allows you to feel full quicker and keeps you from eating so much. It is most certianly a serious life style change, but either way it would have to be a lifestyle change in order to loose this weight, and I feel with the lap-band I will have the tool to force or push me in the right direction.

Mostly I am doing this for me and for my own health, but in return this will have drastic and hopefully positive effect on my whole family. I would really like my children not to have to struggle with this and I would like to think that by changing my lifestyle and changing theirs things can change from here on out, and perhaps my kids have a chance that even I didn't have.

I will attach before photos in my next journal entry just before I go into the hospital. I would like to update weekly so I can see the changes.
